High Point Market Finds To Get That Summertime Feeling At Home
The Spring High Point Market was awash (pun intended) with furniture and home accessories designed for lake or oceanside homes.
Often referred to as “coastal” home goods, they make furnishing a vacation home easy. Still, there is no reason you can’t bring some of their freshness into your daily living. There were offerings in this line suitable for every room in your house.
The trick is in the mix. A suite of “coastal” furniture would likely be overdone for a land bound home. Yet many of these pieces have great shape, texture and character. So by carefully selecting one of two them, you could dial down the atmosphere of your home to create an oasis you could enjoy every day.
In the family room, for example, one could incorporate the X-based side table or coffee table shown above from Stanley’s Coastal Living Resort collection. Sure it fits in a beach house, but that texture and shape are welcome anywhere.
In fact, they would pair well with some of these upholstered pieces from the Sam Moore line at Hooker Furniture Company. While not designed specifically for a beach home, Hooker offered a number of upholstered pieces with fabrics in spa-like green and blue tones that just ooze relaxation.
Add in this case piece that has just a hint of the water with its wave-like decoration from Hooker’s Melange collection and you are all set.

Turning to your eating space, one of these vine-like chandeliers over your table from Selamat’s Calabash and Vineyard Lightings would add chicness and a casual air all at once.
If you’re looking for a storage piece in your casual dining room, this hutch from Stanley’s Coastal Cottage Collection offers lovely display and plenty of room. Since it has the character of a country antique, there is no reason that its open display be filled only with shells, fish and items that look like beach glass. A majolica collection or other type of ceramics would look just as lovely.
Upstairs, this bed from the Tommy Bahama line at Lexington Home Brands will transport you to Bermuda or the Bahamas with its British Colonial feel, especially with blue and white bedding and similar bed hangings. Its traditional look and dark color allow it to be incorporated in multiple settings.
The Spring Market also offered many lovely accent pieces with a nautical or ocean-life theme. If you are drawn to these pieces, you need some caution. You don’t want your regular home to look like a theme park.
This mirror from Made Goods is a great example of a home accessory that incorporates ocean life that could work anywhere you want a punch of green. It is only on close inspection that you realize it is made from sea urchins.
Similarly this felt pillow from Studio A could be seen as reminiscent of nautical rope, but it doesn’t have to be in that setting. Its lovely nubby feel really could fit in anywhere.
This coffee table from Oomph has so much character. While a map of Nantucket is featured, Oomph will customize with a map of your choice. How about one from Paris?
So when your thoughts turn to warm, summer breezes and you want to kick back and relax at home, think of pieces with great texture, elements of nature and forms that suggest antiques, such as those often found in “coastal” lines.
They can give your everyday space the vacation vibe you desire.
