By Lynn Byrne. While many of you have seen pictures of Martha Stewart’s home, Skylands, not so common are snaps showing what the place looked like before she got her hands on it. I haven’t seen a place where befores and afters are gathered in one spot. So voila, I decided to give you the links so you can see for yourself.
A big thank you to Brad Emerson, author of the esteemed blog, The Downeast Diletannte, for giving us a great blog post on Skylands before Martha. He got most of his shots from an old real estate brochure. The photo above and the 2 below are from there. Click right here to enjoy more. There is much to see.
This is the great entry way “before”.
And the pretty pergola.
For fun, I have gathered two links that show you photos of the place once Martha moved in. One link is from her website, and the other from Martha Moments blog. From the website, here is a shot of the Martha after great room and the pergola.

Click here and here, for the Skylands after links. Again many more photos.
Have fun comparing!
Oh and Brad did a great guest post this week in the New York Social Diary on life in Maine for the Vanderbilts.
