Surprise from Warren Platner

By Lynn Byrne.  Typically when one thinks of mid-century designer Warren Platner, these chairs come to mind.

And this lounge chair and stool.

Or perhaps this dining table.

Or its coffee table cousin.

Not so much this incredible restaurant, The American Restaurant, in Kansas City,  especially the brass ceiling.

Here is vintage shot of it, c. 1974

Read more about his interior design and architecture here.  A tidbit, he designed Windows on the World, the famed restaurant on the top of the World Trade Center, photos here.

Update: One of my loyal readers whose photoshop skills are better than mine, sent me a “color corrected” version of the vintage photo.  Thanks Thom!  Here it is.

And, after almost 2 1/2 years it was bound to happen.  For the better part of the day, I had a HUGE typo in this post, referring to Warren Platner as William.  Embarrassing to say the very least.  I did catch the error myself, but next time any of you see me with egg on my face, please feel free to tell me!  My smiley face should be bright red, not yellow. :-)

FAB!! But somehow, 1974 doesn’t feel like it should be considered vintage! :-)
