The Color Purple

By Lynn Byrne. Pantone may have chosen turquoise as its color for 2010, but not too many folks seem to have gotten the memo.  Alicia at Alicia B. Designs did.  She blogged about the choice  and said it was everywhere, showing some great examples.  She added that she was ready to move on from the purple craze.

Now I am a girl who loves turquoise, but unlike Alicia, I haven’t seen much of it around.  Nor have I seen any great leaps away from the purple craze just yet.  Quite the contrary.

Veranda featured the color in 3 stories in its February 2010 pages, including its cover.

Gorgeous purple sunset also in Veranda.

Purple was in the February 2010 issue of House Beautiful as well.  Here is a deep plum on a bed.

The lifestyle magazine, Real Simple, included  an entire primer in its January 2010 issue with advice on how to use the color purple.  It includes different paint shades and furnishings, all variations of the hue, including these three inspiring shots.  Photography by Geoffrey Sokol.

You can’t do a post on purple and leave out Jamie Drake.  His rooms tell you why:

Back in the blogosphere, lifestyle blogger, Slim Paley (love the pseudonym and love the photographs) treats us with a lovely post showing lots of lavender and rosy tones.  Here is a teaser–and she took this shot with her iPhone!  You should really check her out by clicking here.

I also spotted this splashy feathered fan on the New York Social Diary available through Jennifer Bradford Davis Interior Design.

If you log onto top design blogger Holly Becker’s blog Decor8, this week, you find several posts with different hues of purple in different mediums.  Check out her Field Trip and Uniform Studio posts.  In the Field Trip post, Holly states that lilac and gray are a hot palette right now.

I’m with her there.  I have loved that combination ever since my childhood bedroom with wallpaper picturing bunches of lilacs.  Mom, if you are out there today, do you have any photos of that room?

I will have to look for turquoise next month.
